Briarwood Mall's Transformation: What's Coming to Ann Arbor's Iconic Shopping Center

Briarwood Mall, a longstanding retail hub in Ann Arbor, is undergoing a major transformation. With new developments underway, the mall is evolving beyond just a shopping destination—it’s becoming a mixed-use space that blends retail, dining, and residential living.

Here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming to Briarwood Mall and what it means for the Ann Arbor community.

A New Grocery Experience: Harvest Market

One of the biggest additions to Briarwood Mall is Harvest Market, a 57,000-square-foot grocery store set to open in Fall 2025. More than just a place to grab groceries, Harvest Market will feature:

  • A full-service restaurant, deli, and bakery

  • Locally sourced products from Michigan farmers and artisans

  • A unique shopping experience focused on quality and sustainability

This addition is part of a larger trend of integrating grocery stores into shopping centers, making malls a more convenient one-stop destination for everyday needs.

Expanding Retail & Shopping Options

In addition to Harvest Market, Briarwood Mall is adding:

  • A 60,000-square-foot large-format retailer

  • A 16,000-square-foot retail building, rumored to house the relocated Apple Store

These new additions will diversify Briarwood’s retail offerings, attracting shoppers looking for a modern and engaging retail experience.

Luxury Living at Briarwood Mall

Perhaps the most ambitious part of the redevelopment is the construction of a four-story luxury apartment building on a 6.2-acre portion of the mall’s parking lot.

This new residential space will include 370 apartment units, ranging from studio to three-bedroom layouts. Residents will have access to high-end amenities such as:

  • Courtyards with seating and grills

  • A pet-friendly dog run and spa

  • A state-of-the-art fitness center & golf simulator

  • Co-working spaces for remote professionals

The building will also emphasize sustainability, featuring all-electric appliances and 20,000 square feet of rooftop solar panels to power shared spaces.

What This Means for Ann Arbor

Briarwood Mall’s redevelopment signals a shift in how malls are being reimagined. By blending retail, dining, and residential living, the project aims to create a vibrant, community-driven space that reflects the future of urban development.

As someone familiar with Briarwood Mall, I’ve seen how it has evolved over the years. This latest transformation will not only attract more visitors but also enhance the overall shopping and living experience in Ann Arbor.
