If you’re looking for the perfect summer outing that combines a little city adventure with some classic American fun, catching a Detroit Tigers game at Comerica Park should be high on your list! Whether you're a lifelong baseball fan or just someone looking for an easy day trip with friends, the ballpark offers more than just sports—it’s an experience!
This past Thursday, a few of us from Ann Arbor Hub made the trip to Detroit to watch the Tigers take on the Athletics, who, fun fact, no longer play in Oakland. Their lease with the Oakland Coliseum expired at the end of the 2024 season, and as of 2025, they now play at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, California.
From the moment we walked into Comerica, the energy was infectious. The skyline views, the smell of fresh popcorn, and the sound of fans cheering instantly set the tone for a great night.
The Ballpark Experience
Comerica Park is more than just a stadium—it’s a summer destination. Right in the heart of downtown Detroit, it gives off that perfect mix of big-league excitement and hometown pride. With its carousel, baseball-themed Ferris wheel, and wide open concourses, it’s a great spot whether you're going with friends, family, or even flying solo.
For us, the game was only half the fun. We grabbed snacks (the hotdogs did not disappoint), walked around to see the giant tiger statues, and soaked up the atmosphere. There's just something nostalgic about sitting in the stands with a cold drink, watching the sun set behind the outfield.
Oh, and the Tigers didn’t just play—they dominated, shutting out the Athletics with an 8–0 win!
Not Just for Sports Fans
Even if you don’t know the Tigers’ lineup by heart, a baseball game at Comerica still makes for a great summer memory! The crowd was laid-back and friendly, the food stands were buzzing, and the views of Detroit lit up at night made it all feel a little magical.
For anyone in Ann Arbor looking for a fun way to spend a summer evening, a Tigers game is the move. Tickets are affordable, parking is doable, and it’s an awesome way to explore a bit more of Michigan. Plus, it's a built-in excuse to grab food downtown before or after the game.
Make It a Summer Tradition
Whether it’s your first time or your fiftieth, a trip to Comerica Park is one of those quintessential summer experiences you don’t want to miss. There’s just something about the combo of city lights, baseball chants, and shared excitement that makes you want to come back again and again.
So, if you’re wondering what to do this weekend, take our advice: go to a Tigers game. We did—and it was a home run!
