In May 2024, the Throne Restroom Pilot Project officially launched in response to public input on enhancing downtown Ann Arbor's infrastructure. The project aims to provide accessible, clean, and innovative restroom facilities that are not only practical but also add a colorful touch to the city's vibrant atmosphere.
Throne Labs Inc., the company behind the project, began installing a series of portable public restrooms throughout Ann Arbor last year. These restrooms serve as a convenient solution for both residents and visitors, offering easy access to facilities while promoting inclusivity. In celebration of Ann Arbor’s bicentennial milestone, each restroom is designed to reflect the city’s unique character, with vibrant, eye-catching designs that enhance the downtown landscape.
Locations of Throne Portable Restrooms:
These new portable restrooms can be found at several strategic locations throughout the city, making them easily accessible to residents, tourists, and anyone in need. Here’s where you can find them:
100 block of East Washington Street (east of Main Street on the north side of the street)
The Robert J. Delonis Center (312 W. Huron St.)
The Ann Arbor Farmers Market (315 Detroit St.)
Liberty Plaza Park (310 S. Division St.)
West Park (215 Chapin St.)
Riverside Park near the B2B Trail (1000 Canal St.)
Veterans Memorial Park (2150 Jackson Ave.)
(Two units will be available here)
How to Access the Restrooms
Accessing these restrooms is simple and user-friendly. Residents and visitors can open the restrooms by sending a text message, using a mobile app, or with a Throne Tap Card. This system allows for a seamless experience, ensuring ease of use for everyone. For those without access to mobile devices, Throne Tap Cards are available for pick-up at Larcom City Hall (301 E. Huron St.) and the Delonis Center (312 W. Huron St.) during regular business hours.
The restrooms are fully serviced and cleaned by Throne Labs Inc., ensuring a high level of hygiene and comfort for all users. Additionally, each unit is equipped with baby-changing stations and menstrual products, enhancing accessibility and convenience for families and individuals of all needs. These features are a part of Throne’s commitment to inclusivity and their effort to exceed Federal ADA standards, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can use the facilities with ease.
A Community-Driven Initiative
The Throne Restroom Pilot Project represents more than just a convenience—it is a reflection of the city’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for all of Ann Arbor’s residents and visitors. The feedback from the community played a crucial role in making this initiative a reality, and the city values continued input from its residents. If you’d like to share your thoughts or experiences with the new facilities, please fill out the feedback form to provide valuable feedback on the project.
As the city continues to grow, these colorful and accessible restrooms will be a welcome addition to downtown Ann Arbor, offering both residents and visitors a high-quality, convenient solution for public restroom needs.
